Description

Turf Saver RTF is the most advanced and unique tall fescue blend available, providing the benefits of rhizomes not found in any other varieties. While other spreading varieties describe "potential" rhizome development or "aggressive tillering," the deep-rooted and heat-tolerant Turf Saver RTF has been proven to mend damaged turf and maintain both uniformity and density. Seeding Rate: 8-10 lbs. Seeds/lb. 250,000 Mowing Recommendation: 2.5-3.0 in. Mowing High Input Min: 0.750 in.
  • RTF is the only Tall Fescue with true rhizomes. These rhizomes help RTF quickly fill in damaged and bare spots with new shoots of grass.
  • Produces a thick, durable lawn with improved turf density
  • Strong traffic tolerance -- the only self-repairing tall fescue seed mixture available
  • Quick to establish with very good uniformity and density
  • Saves 30% water over other cool season grasses

Update to my Oct 11, 2023 review
Nov 12, 2023
Lots of irrigation and some nice weather brought my seed in really nice. Some matured faster than other areas. The 300 cups I planted with seed came in very nice too. Have put them in some of the thinnner spots. Just started another 200 cups with RTF seed in my wife's greenhouse and expect those to be be ready after the first of the year for transplanting. Ordered another 30 lbs for use in Spring 2024 to hit additional bare spots. Neighbors are amazed at how 30,000 sq ft of dead grass turned so green and lush. I hit the lawn with some Lesco 24 2 11 fertilizer, 6 weeks after the initial aeration, seeding and starter fertilizer. We had 3 nights with temps near freezing, so I ran my irrigation about 5 cycles for 5 -10 minutes on each zone to protect seedlings from frost.

Major overseed with Barenburg RTF yellow jacket
Oct 11, 2023
Barenburg RTF Tall Fescue seed I'm in the Upstate of SC. I purchased 300lbs of the Barenburg RTF yellow jacket to over seed my 40,000 ft sq lot in the fall of 2023. I had a bad case of POA in the spring and something I put on the POA for control killed a lot of my grass. As summer went on, the Bermuda from all my neighbors was taking over. I tried several different chemicals to see how they worked on the Bermuda. As aeration and over seeding approached, I had to make one final action. Two weeks prior to over seeding, I treated 30,000 ft sq with Tractor Supply 53.8% Glyphosate at 4 oz/gal. I used two, 31 gal tanks. The kill was slow, but by the 7th day, I had killed 99% of what I sprayed. Ran dethatcher over lot and swept it up. On 9/16/23, I aerated and over seeded the entire 40,000 ft sq yard (note: soil tests from Clemson Univ. showed ph and chemicals in line for tall fescue). I ran my drag screen over the entire lot to get seed to settle and break up any clumps from aerating. I rolled the entire lot with my new Agr Fab water roIler. Found out when I was cleaning it the assembly by Tractor Supply omitted 4 bolts which allowed majority of water to leak out, giving me less than adequate results. Also had some patches of dead Bermuda on slopes which I only hit lightly with dethatcher, as I was afraid seed would wash down slopes, based on previous years. Applied 250 lbs of Lesco 18-24-12 starter fertilizer. Irrigated all 40,000 ft sq for 4 weeks straight. After 4th week, new growth irregular in 30,000 ft sq that was treated with Glyphosate. Least new growth where dead Bermuda was still present Will be applying some Lesco fertilizer at end of Oct. Probably put down some 0-0-7 pre-emergent around the same time. I think a better review will be spring 2024 when RTF perks up.Right now, I can't measure and difference between 4 previous years with various other Tall Fescue seeds. PS: Put RTF seed in 300 cups my wife had for seedlings with some of her garden soil and most of those came up the best. I'm going to use those to fill in some bare spots and hope they spread out. Might plant more RTF seed in cups over winter in her greenhouse.

Accumulating seed for Fall overseeding
Jun 16, 2023
I am waiting for fall to overseed my 1.25 acre lot as I have the previous 4 years. I'm hoping Rhizomes will allow me to stop overseeding as I'm 79 yes old. I have started 200 small seed cups in late May to see how they transplant in the warmer weather. I do have 100% irrigation so I can control moisture. Hope this $1000 experiment works.

Ready for fall but testing now.
May 24, 2023
I just planted 250 cups with RTF seed to see how it grows during summer. I have on my rear deck where I can control sun. I have 200 lbs for Sept when I will aerate and overseed 40,000 sq/ft with Barenburg RTF in upstate SC. If I could post pictures on this review, I would show progress of test cups over next 6 weeks.
